Vespa: The Beeb’s Scooter Is Here!

Back in December 2021, Zac wrote about the upcoming apocalypse. If you didn’t have a chance or inclination to read the article, it seems his prognostication has come true. Vespa is indeed partnering with pop “star” Justin Bieber on a specially designed Vespa scooter. And if you are wondering why, you’re not alone.

That said, a company as large as Vespa’s parent company Piaggio has more than enough money to buy “insightful and informative” customer demographic information. And for the price of what it is likely costing them to partner with the Beebs, that information must say that Bieber followers will flock to the Italian scooter company in hordes just to purchase a scooter that Bieber allegedly had a hand in designing.  If that’s the case, congrats Piaggio. But the Beebs pitching scooters? Oh my.

To be fair, as a scooter styling icon, Vespa has already partnered with the likes of Giorgio Armani, Christian Dior, and Sean Wotherspoon. All are well known for their iconic and sometimes hugely expensive clothing designs. But teaming with a pop singer?  How does that fit?

Anyway, the result of the Bieber/Vespa collaboration is a new scooter Vespa calls the JUSTIN BIEBER X VESPA (Vespa uses all caps).

About the new scooter’s design, Vespa says:

“Glamourous and timeless, the new Vespa designed by Justin Bieber reflects his creativity, always on whenever he dreams up something unique destined to become pure inspiration.”

Vespa quotes Bieber himself as saying:

“I love Vespa, and to partner with such a classic brand is so cool. Being able to express myself, whether it’s through art, music, visuals, or aesthetics, being able to create something from nothing – it’s a part of me. Ultimately the goal in creating and designing is always to put your own unique spin on things.“

So how is the new JUSTIN BIEBER X VESPA different?  Vespa says that “Monochrome is the underlying style feature that distinguishes the new Vespa signed by Bieber.”

White, white, and more white

And monochrome the machine is. It is mostly white– even the machine’s handgrips. Only the engine, part of the exhaust, rear fender, and lights conflict with the all-white theme. If left out in the snow, it could likely vanish.

Vespa makes it clear that Bieber selected the white color:

“White color, selected by the singer, passes through all elements of the new Vespa Sprint: from the saddle to the grips to the spokes of the rims. The brand logo and the flames drawn on the body of the vehicle are also tone on tone white; that is the spin the singer wanted to put on the design to embody the creative drive, vibrancy and vigor – the values shared by both Bieber and Vespa.”

Vespa goes on to say that the JUSTIN BIEBER X VESPA’s makeup is unmistakable, and that the features are the result of blending style and technology.

“The fresh, youthful geometry of the vehicle makes up a light yet protective body while the handlebar, with its unmistakable evocative rectangular headlight, supports an extremely modern full color multifunctional TFT display, in sync with all smartphone functions. The Full-Led lights and the spectacular 12” wheel rims are supreme results of blending style and technology.”

Available with different engines

If the JUSTIN BIEBER X VESPA has your or your kid’s attention, it is available with different engines. It comes in 50cc, 125cc, and 150cc engine displacements. Although the special scooter is a “limited-edition” machine, Vespa did not say how many will be produced.

And Vespa says the machine will also have an equally irresistible accessories collection. The accessories include a bag, a pair of gloves, special flame treatment, and a monochromatic white helmet. The helmet will feature “an utter Justin spin.”
