advrider
If you’re a fan of Ewan and Charley’s “Long Way” series of motorcycle adventures, you may remember the Riders for Health charity they visited while riding the length of Africa. Riders for Health sources motorcycles and supplies fuel and maintenance for healthcare professionals in Africa. Less-developed countries throughout Africa do not have the infrastructure for efficient travel. Motorcycles, therefore, are the best fit to get doctors to the people who need them. A doctor or nurse on a motorcycle can see many more patients in a day. compared to the limited distance they can travel on foot, which in turn limits the number of people they can see and help. Yamaha’s Role Yamaha has teamed up for the next three years with this global leader in healthcare transport. Since Riders for Health commonly uses Yamaha motorcycles, it’s a natural partnership. The marque plans to support the charity by raising awareness and fundraising. Part of that fundraising will be through the partnership in Yamaha’s entry into the Africa Eco Race. Riders for Health will be the Yamaha Tenere 700 World Raid team’s title partner. The charity’s UK-based fundraising arm, Two Wheels For Life, should also get a boost from Yamaha’s partnership and awareness campaigns. About Riders for Health Riders for Health has been operating in Africa for 30 years. They bring much-needed healthcare to people who would otherwise have no access. Doctors travel by motorcycle to deliver immunizations, care for the elderly, babies and pregnant women, among other services. The healthcare worker riders can see six times as many patients when they travel on two wheels, and spend twice as long with each patient. When a doctor has reliable transportation that can traverse rocky roads between rural communities, they can improve all of the residents’ quality of life. Since the roads in this area of the world are not well maintained, it is essential that the motorcycles are. Fuel, tools and maintenance are key components of delivering health care to people who need it. Yamaha announced its entry into the Africa Eco Race after announcing its withdrawal from the Dakar Rally, earlier this month. It’s a natural fit for the T7, especially in its new World Raid trim. To support Riders for Health, you can visit their website directly, the Yamaha for Riders website, or go to the UK fundraising site, Two Wheels for Life.
