advrider
For the first time ever, the world’s ultimate roadrace—and it’s a true roadrace—is now available for online viewing. The Isle of Man TT’s organizers have just launched the Live Pass, which will allow race fans to watch the action live, in real-time from anywhere in the world. And, the price is pretty good, considering you’re watching the world’s premiere motorcycle street circuit race. The Isle of Man TT organizers first launched the TT+ online viewing platform this winter, working with Vimeo. The TT+ site allows users to watch anything but live racing for free. Then, when the TT is running, you can sign up for the TT Live Pass; this allows you to watch practice and racing, and only costs £14.99 (or whatever your local currency adjusts to). That might sound like a lot of cash to lay out for only a couple of weeks’ worth of live racing action. However, consider the alternative. From time immemorial, the only practical way for most viewers to see the TT races live was, travel to the Isle of Man. For Brits, that was no easy task; the moto-forums are always filled with grumbling about the price of the ferry, the price of accommodations, the price of beer, etc. From what I can tell that fifteen quid subscription to the TT app would barely cover your dinner at a restaurant, if you’re at the IOMTT in person! If you didn’t live in the UK, it got even more complicated; you’d never get any sort of TV coverage, and the flights to the island would push costs sky-high. Nevertheless, thousands of race fans from around the globe made the trip every year. That is, until COVID canceled the 2020 and 2021 races … Now, those faithful fans can enjoy the action from their computer screen, or their smartphone, and even their TV, if they figure that out. No, it won’t be the same as watching from the island’s grandstands, but it’s a lot more accessible and affordable, and in today’s world of inflation and COVID, that’s a good thing.
