Yamaha Recalling Certain 2022 YZ125 Models

Yamaha is recalling about 760 2022 YZ125-N2L and YZ125-N2ME model motorcycles. The former machine is the company’s standard YZ-125, while the latter bike is the Monster Energy edition of the same machine.

The triple tuning fork company says that the YZ125’s gear shift assembly can detach from the crankcase. If this happens, the bike may experience unintentional gear shifting, which poses a crash hazard.

YZ125 under CPSC authority

Since both YZ125 models are strictly off-road machines, this recall is being issued under the auspices of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and not the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  As a result, the CPSC has released recall 22-746.

The recall indicates that owners should immediately stop riding the recalled off-road machines and contact their local Yamaha dealer to schedule a free repair. Just precisely what is entailed in making the repair was not disclosed in the CPSC’s recall notice.

Affected motorcycles were sold nationwide at Yamaha dealers from July 2021 through January 2022.

Motorcycles subject to the recall can be identified by checking the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) stamped on the bike’s headstock. The affected bikes include the following VIN range:

 ***CE34C***000301 through ***CE34C***004096.
