advrider
Overland and adventure riding accessory maker Giant Loop, based out of bucolic Bend, Oregon, is set to hold it’s 11th annual Giant Loop Ride festival sort of near the company HQ (depending on how you define “near”) in the first week of June. The event includes two days of riding over the three-day run of the festival, which will base out of Crane Hot Springs, located roughly east of the Middle Of Nowhere in Oregon’s vast high desert outback. Full disclosure: I’m a native Oregonian and I’ve stayed at Crane Hot Springs, and the hot springs are legit. So is the off-pavement riding in the area. Just getting there is a good ride. Unfortunately, if you’re just hearing about the Giant Loop Ride, it’s too late to sign up as it sold out pretty much immediately when announced months ago. However, if you’re were willing to hope against hope, you can register for the waiting list and if someone cancels you may be able to duck in at the last minute. If you still don’t land a spot this year because someone cancelled, getting on the waitlist should at least bump you to the attendee list for 2023. Good luck. Riders who did pull the trigger in time to get a spot should expect a fun outing. While Oregon is famous for its rain, that’s really only true for the most populous part of the state west of the Cascade mountain range. Out in the Crane Creek area, it’s typically sunny 300+ days each year, and it can also get damn hot during the day while slipping close to (or below) freezing at night since the resort sits at over 4,100 feet in elevation. So gear up for both extremes. Giant Loop says Harley-Davidson, KTM and Royal Enfield will have bikes on display and demo rides, likely including the Pan America from H-D and Himalayan from R-E. KTM will likely bring a passel of models. A slate of vendors “representing some of the finest brands and companies in powersports,” will tempt your wallet, of course. Otherwise, food, drink, merriment and swag will be in the mix, with BBQ and prime rib on the menu for Friday and Saturday post-ride meals. Day rides will consist of small groups so no one has to fight off the buzzards to survive if they get stuck out in the sagebrush. All the details on what you’re missing out on are right here, just scroll down a bit. Like you, I’ll be planning ahead for Giant Loop’s 2023 event.
