advrider
After two years’ cancellation due to COVID-19, the Erzberg Rodeo weekend is finally here again, and almost anyone should be able to tune in and watch the brutality… errrr, we mean fun, via Red Bull’s app. The Erzberg Rodeo is perhaps the most notorious stop on the FIM’s Hard Enduro race series. That’s partly due to lots of publicity from its title sponsor (energy drink giant Red Bull), but also because it’s been running for almost 30 years, and a long string of top trials and enduro racers, along with other well-known riders, have tackled the course (Dakar ace Cyril Despres was a two-time champ at the Rodeo). There’s a good overview of what to expect at this year’s race here: [embedded content] The Erzberg Rodeo gains most of its press because it’s incredibly tough. Running around the grounds of the Erzberg iron mine in south-east Austria, organizers have countered the general trend in racing by making the course harder over the years, not easier; for most competitors, the challenge is simply finishing. In 2015, the fastest four riders only finished by cooperating to haul each other’s bikes through the toughest parts of the course, shared the podium’s top spot as a result. Because it’s so hard, so unique, racers come from all over the world; this year, Lyndon Poskitt’s back at the event, along with other familiar names like Billy Bolt, Graham Jarvis, Teddy Blazusiak and Manuel Lettenbichler. Trystan Hart’s made the trip over from North America this year, and no doubt Americans and Canadians alike will be cheering him along. One longtime hero at Erzberg, Jonny Walker, is unfortunately unable to participate this year due to injury, but he’s going to be in the commentators’ booth instead, and will no doubt have some great insight based on his experience. Along with the main FIM-sanctioned event itself, there’s plenty of other action at the Rodeo, some of which you can see below: [embedded content] There’s a ground-level look at the event’s pre-main event action here: [embedded content] How to watch? The best way to watch this year’s race is through Red Bull’s TV app, which shows Saturday and Sunday’s racing. Visit here to find a version of the app that works for your mobile device.
