Ducati has given its Panigale V4 a mid-generation update, with a list of improvements to the electronics systems but minimal changes to the hardware.

The tweaks to the microchips and wiring come courtesy of lessons learned in Ducati’s roadracing programs, and they’re supposed to make the bikes more comfortable, with better handling and sharper performance. Used to be, you could only achieve those goals with hardware overhauls, but now you can do the same by swapping out some zeros and ones in the code.

Updates include Engine Brake Control EVO 2 software, improved quickshifter management, an updated traction control system and improved ride-by-wire programming (with lean angle factored in more accurately now). The cooling fan control system is also updated, which is supposed to operate better temperature management for the engine and also “better thermal comfort” for the rider. Presumably, that means less hot air thrown backwards, something that manufacturers appear to be taking more seriously these days. Ducati also says it’s supposed to handle end-of-session cool-down better, important for riders buying these for track days or racing.

There are a few changes to the hard parts as well. First, second and sixth gears are taller; the fairings are updated as well, including redesigned winglets, and adjustments to the vents for better airflow over the cooling system. The swingarm pivot is now moved 4mm higher, and there’s a new electronically-pressurized NPX 25/30 fork.

While the hardware changes are intended for models 2023-onwards, the electronic updates can be installed on 2022-model-year Panigale V4 models with a software flash at your local dealership.
