advrider
Irbit Motorworks of America, Inc. (Ural) is recalling various motorcycle models due to the potential for the motorcycle’s wheels to fail and/or lock up. Ural’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report to NHTSA In its Part 573 Safety Recall Report, Ural says: “The known assembly defect is specific to aluminum rims used in production between 9/15/2011 and 10/3/2017. The cause of this defect is improper assembly, specifically over-torque of the wheel spokes.” Describing the safety risk, Ural says: “Possible consequence of this defect can include broken and/or split rims and possible failure resulting in wheel lock up or damage that could potentially lead to a vehicle crash.” According to Ural, the affected bike’s wheel rim spokes may have been over-torqued. All of the rims in question were provided by Comstar and assembled between 9/15/2011 and 10/03/2017. Ural’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says 3,250 motorcycles may be affected. The affected motorcycles are as follows: MAKE MODEL YEAR URAL CT 2015-2017 URAL GEAR-UP 2012-2017 URAL PATROL-T 2012-2017 URAL RETRO 2012-2017 URAL TOURIST-T 2012-2015 In its report to NHTSA, Ural said it would begin notifying owners of the recall on August 1, 2022. Ural’s repair plan Ural says that registered owners of all affected motorcycles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Ural dealer. Under the Ural recall program, dealers will replace all wheel rims, including a new spoke set, tube, and rim strips for all motorcycles manufactured between 9/15/2011 and 10/03/2017. All repairs will be completed free of charge. Contacts For more information, owners may contact Ural customer service at 1-425-702-8484.
