advrider
There’s a new BMW sportbike—sort of. Depending who you ask, the BMW G310 RR isn’t really a BMW, and it certainly isn’t new. And, at this point it is not confirmed for North America. A few weeks back, we got our first confirmation that BMW was about to release a small-cc sportbike for India. Early teases seemed to indicate the machine was just a rebadged version of the Indian-market TVS Apache RR310. Now that we have seen the machine actually launched, that’s exactly what we’re seeing out of India’s moto-press. A GS cousin This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who’s paying attention, as TVS and BMW have been cooperating for years. TVS manufacturers BMW’s 310-series, including the G310 R naked bike and the G310 GS mini adventure bike. TVS also makes bikes under its own badging based on this same single-cylinder platform, including the Apache sportbike; for years, people have asked when BMW would do the same. Why not paint a TVS sportbike in red/white/blue, slap on a roundel, call it a day? Turns out, that’s what BMW did. See below: [embedded content] This bike is almost 100 percent the same as the TVS, by the look of it: See that machine below: Photo: TVS Even the wheels and tires (Michelin Pilot Street) are the same. That means we can probably expect the internal mechanical bits to offer basically the same performance as well: Almost 34 horsepower at 9,700 rpm, and 20 pound-feet of torque at 7,700 rpm. Note that the TVS model’s five-inch TFT screen carries over, a nice touch at this price range; in India, this bike is going for the equivalent of roughly $3,600-$3-800 USD, depending which trim you get. It looks like fun, but it’s not confirmed for the US, Canada, or even Europe at this point. You can see full details at BMW’s Indian website; if you decide you’d like one in your garage, maybe for trackday fun, start by asking your local dealership?
