advrider
Kawasaki’s rethought “Gen 3” KLR650 is rolling off showroom floors and onto adventures around the globe, and we’ve even taken it to task in the hinterlands of Canada, where it won praise for it s new fuel-injection, ABS brakes (and just plain BETTER brakes) and general adhesion to the classic KLR positives (affordable, dependable, etc.). But it also got a few knocks for a bit of weight gain, the loss of a tachometer and, on the top-spec Adventure model we reviewed, some too-small, too-flimsy OEM panniers. Now, German adventure moto accessory maker SW-MOTECH has remedies for pretty much any shortcomings the new-for ’22 KLR might have (aside from horsepower creation) with an expanded lineup of gear to take the beloved Kwacka from trail-ready to world-traveler status. In all, SW now lists nearly 200 items for the KLR650, although many (like soft bags and so on) will work with many bikes. But there are some key new entries specifically for the G3 KLR. First up: Panniers. SW-MOTECH now offers a complete TRAX ADV boxes-and-rack solution for the ’22, in both black and naked aluminum, for $1,500. The left case holds 45 liter, the right holds 37 to make way for the exhaust canister. The PRO line rack system includes quick-release mounts and all the hardware needed for ’22 KLR fitment. All dressed up in SW-MOTECH gear and ready to go! Image: SW-MOTECH Riders wanting to add a top case to the party can now do so with a new $185 Adventure Rack quick-mount plate for a box of their choice, or a complete $567 solution with the lighter-weight Urban top case included. It will also mount up a matching TRAX aluminum top box for 120 liters total storage with all three metal boxes in place. Also new: a $338 set of wrap-around 27mm crash bars, a $243 bash plate in black or silver, KOBRA hand guards ($205) and EVO footpegs kit ($185) that offers over 35 positions to fine-tune your comfort while crossing the Atacama. When you get a flat, SW’s ’22 center stand kit ($283) will simplify trail-side repairs. And if the OEM LED aux lights aren’t getting it done, SW-MOTECH has both a high beam kit ($463) and a fog light set ($453). Wait, there’s more: A funky bash-plate mounted tool box ($128), a smaller, less-obtrusive 5.5 liter tank bag ($199) and smaller bits like mirror extensions are also now available. Check out the whole list here. Got a ’22 KLR650? How do you like? What did you add or remove? Tell us all your KLR secrets in comments!
