advrider
Ride to Fish, Fish to Ride! Maybe you hate fishing, but for me and my buddies over the years, motorcycles have often proven a low-cost, high-fun way to get to backcountry brook trout holes… except for one problem. It’s kind of a pain in the neck to bring a fishing rod. Maybe the Daggerfish Handreel can help? The Daggerfish Handreel is basically a glorified handline setup (and even calling it “glorified” might be a stretch, since this thing is dead simple). Basically, it’s a handle that serves as a spool for your fishing line; you cast your tackle by hand, without the benefit of a rod, and then wind your line back onto the handle as you retrieve. That handle also doubles as your tackle box, as you can store fishing gear inside. See it in use below: [embedded content] The YouTube channel has plenty of useful tips, to help you see ways to get the most out of this fishing setup: [embedded content] [embedded content] If you grew up near the ocean, or maybe even big water like the Great Lakes, you’ll recognize this is hardly a groundbreaking gear setup. It’s the same sort of simple idea that handliners have used for thousands of years. However, this adapated-to-stream-fishing design, with its self-storage option, appears to be extremely well-suited to motorcycle travel, with no fragile rod tips to break, and no reels to attract dust as the bike rips along gravel roads. The Keep It Simple, Stupid principle is always good, and this gear should survive a RTW trip with no worries about replacement parts.
