advrider
In the world of ADV, there are a few gadgets that are very commonplace. Not everyone has them, but everyone knows someone who has them, at least—stuff like Sena or Cardo communicators, or the subject of this write-up, a Garmin Zumo XT satnav system. These GPS units hit the market in 2020 packed with useful features. One of the more interesting updates was a new Garmin Adventurous Routing option, which helps you find adventure riding routes. As per our original writeup, at the unit’s release: GPS experts should already be familiar with the “find twistiest roads” option that some GPS companies already include, which uses algorithms to figure out what the best motorcycle roads are, if you want to hit some corners. The new zumo XT has a different take on this idea, providing”Garmin Adventurous Routing” options, which incorporate 4×4 trails, public land boundaries and other similar information to help you find proper adventure riding opportunities. Pretty useful stuff indeed, and when I long-term tested a Garmin Zumo XT the next riding season, I was surprised at how well the system worked. You can see my initial review below, but note that it’s titled “Getting Started with Garmin Zumo XT.” All I had time to do was share a brief overview of the unit, its capabilities and my satisfaction with it. Getting started with Garmin Zumo XT So what if you want more? What if you want a more in-depth user review, a long-term evaluation of the unit’s strengths, weaknesses, and workarounds for issues? The good news is that you’re surrounded by experts, on the ADVrider forum! There is an excellent thread in the Mapping & Navigation sub-forum, with over 5,000 posts as I write this, sharing details of the Zumo XT. See it here. What if you’re a more visual learner? Garmin’s initial retail training video is here, but YouTube is an excellent source of independent user reviews of this handy gadget. Click this link for a long list of installation videos; you are very likely to find your bike listed there somewhere, if it’s a common ADV model. Finally, bringing it all back to our own forum: If the 5,000 posts in the main Zumo XT thread are too many for you, check out this list of separate, individual threads, with unique questions answered. If you’re trying to figure out how to use your GPS, the answers are there. Vezi sursa
