Eddier Bauer continues to try new ideas in the wake of COVID-19’s disruption of retail operations, with a new program aimed at selling previously used outdoors equipment and clothes.

The Eddie Bauer (Re)Adventure program, as the company calls it, was launched earlier this summer, but seems to only be in its initial stages of operation—at at this point, the program’s website has plenty of clothing for sale, but not much for outdoors equipment (although there is some, and the markdowns are worthwhile). It was kickstarted with logistical and tech support from Arrive Outdoors, the same company that helped Eddie Bauer launch its gear rental program last fall. No word yet on how that’s going…

It seems likely, though, that these are related; Eddie Bauer can rent out equipment for a few life cycles, and then sell it off instead of throwing it out. That also helps the company meet goals of environmental friendliness. In the case of clothing, it allows Eddie Bauer to sell returns, etc. And, in a time of ever-tightening profit margins, it allows Eddie Bauer to lessen its shrink, and make more money off stuff that would have been otherwise discarded.

If the selection doesn’t improve, it’s likely this program will be little use to ADVriders; but if selection does improve, then there could be some decent equipment here to save you money. Yeah, Eddie Bauer is probably best-known for its dad-style clothes in malls and outlets, but the company has strong roots in outdoor sports and does include some higher-end technical gear on its site, along with your basic car-camping stuff. Note the tent in the title image: That’s a rugged unit that should handle the worst winds of the Mongolian plains, and Eddie Bauer does have stuff like that for sale, if you know where to look.
