advrider
The biennial European industry and consumer show is back after missing its 2020 date due to COVID-19. Over October 4-9, the latest motorcycles, e-bikes, scooters, e-scooters, as well as the most important new products in electric mobility, accessories, clothing, parts, heritage, customizing, travel and workshop equipment will be showcased at the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds. While 4 and 5 October are reserved for business and the trade, from 6 October, the event is open to German and other European motorcycle enthusiasts. The International Motorcycle, Scooter and E-Bike Fair has some 500 exhibiting companies and brands from around 29 countries, including many big names. They will present their new and current models and product innovations to the international trade and the biker community. In the starting blocks for Cologne are, among others, Benelli, BMW Group (this is a surprise, since BMW Motorrad had announced it would not be taking part), Energica, Honda Deutschland, Horex Motorcycles GmbH, Kawasaki Motors Europe N.V., KTM, MSA with the Voge brand, the Piaggio Group with the brands Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa, Suzuki Deutschland GmbH, Triumph Motorrad Deutschland GmbH, and ZERO Motorcycles. Intermot features many activities, both displays and opportunities to participate. Photo: Koelnmesse Note that many of the exhibitors are the German (“Deutschland”) distributors rather than the parent companies. Despite Intermot’s optimism, this seems to place their participation on a somewhat lower level than involvement by the international parents. The show looks like it’s going a bit weird, too, with advice that “those who are looking for a new tattoo or want to shape their beard can take a short detour to the tattoo and barber shop of Intermot in Hall 7”. Perhaps that latter offering is a spinoff from the major custom exhibition of Intermot with its “unique exhibits staged with love… In each themed area you’ll also receive expert advice from proven professionals. One can also sit back and talk shop with fellow enthusiasts in the Custom Lounge. Heaven for all heritage and custom fans!” Apart from the presentation of new products, Intermot will feature a substantial range of events. ‘Visitors will be able to try out the new models for themselves on the various test tracks in… outdoor areas,” says the show’s publicity. “Whether novice, returner or experienced motorcycle or scooter rider, there is a test track for everyone: rookies as of 15 years of age can make their first rounds on the 125 cc test track, while experienced riders can test the new models on the big bike test track. On the e-test track, everything revolves around electromobility – pedelecs, electric kick scooters, scooters and motorcycles with e-drive are ready to ride here.” I’m looking forward to Intermot 2022, and I will be reporting from the show for you.
