Triumph will compete in the 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP). The British marque will field a factory team under an “all-new” Triumph Racing banner.

The new Triumph Racing team comes in partnership with Thierry Chizat-Suzzoni, one of the sport’s highly successful team owners. The new team will field two all-new Triumph 250cc four-stroke motocross bikes in the MX2 series. In 2025, the team will add a single entry in the 450cc MXGP class.

CEO comments

Triumph CEO Nick Bloor is excited to be going off-road racing:

“Our new partnership with Thierry [Chizat-Suzzoni] demonstrates Triumph’s long-term commitment to competing at the highest levels of racing,” said Triumph CEO Nick Bloor. “We share a passion for delivering world-class performance, and the experience Thierry and his team bring will prove invaluable in our ambition to make our mark on a very competitive championship. Our entry into the FIM Motocross World Championship with a factory supported Triumph Racing team signifies a landmark moment at the beginning of our new top-tier off-road racing campaign.”

In addition, Triumph’s existing Moto2 and supersport racing teams will all compete under a new Triumph Racing banner. Triumph’s longstanding team manager, Vincent Bereni, will continue to lead the team along with the current technical staff.

Chizat-Suzzoni comments

Thierry is equally happy to be a part of the new Triumph Racing program:

Triumph has made a major commitment to build an MX bike and go racing in the FIM World Motocross Championship. I am happy that my team is going to be the official Triumph Racing Team in MX2 and MXGP. Nick Bloor and the Triumph Board of Directors have made their long-term ambitions for the project very clear, and I see a huge amount of passion from everyone at the Factory. I am happy with progress on the bike, it looks great, has speed on the track and Vincent and my staff are working with the engineers at Hinckley on building it into a competitive package for entry into the MX2 Championship in 2024. MXGP continues to grow around the world, and I am very happy to be back and looking forward to going racing with Triumph.

To say that Chizat-Suzzoni and Bereni have a good reputation in MXGP is an understatement. The pair has already chalked up 80 MXGP World Championship victories.

Triumph’s journey to off-road racing

Jeremy Appleton, Triumph’s Global Racing Manager believes that the new MXGP team is another mark of the company’s intent to rise in all forms of motorcycle racing:

The launch of Triumph Racing is a pivotal step in our journey to bring Triumph to the pinnacle of racing across an even wider range of disciplines. Building on Triumph’s success as the sole engine supplier to the Moto2 World Championship and our participation in Supersport racing, the move into MX2 and MXGP opens the door on a strategically important new chapter in top-tier off-road racing. We well know the demands of World Championship competition and that is the reason for forming the partnership with Thierry. Together with Vincent, their approach to racing and development of performance is impressive and we are looking forward to building the project together and adding to the success that they have already achieved in the Motocross World Championship.

Triumph Racing team locations

Triumph Racing is based at its Global Headquarters in Hinckley, UK. It is here that the brand’s research, design, engineering development, and prototype builds are located. However, the MXGP team will be based at Thierry’s race facility near Eindhoven in Holland. It is at this location that race team personnel, operations, and competition development will be housed.

Engineering groups at the Triumph factory and the race team will continue working closely. They plan to enhance chassis and engine performance continuously. An intensive testing schedule is already underway in the USA, UK, and mainland Europe. If all goes as planned, Triumph will make its entrance at the first MX2 round of the 2024 MXGP season.

It will be interesting to see whether Triumph’s new MXGP race bike will be competitive in its debut. However, perhaps the more exciting is the wait for the arrival of Triumph’s production version of its all-new dirt bike. What else will Triumph come up with for the off-road community? We will just have to wait and see.
