At last, Ducati has gotten serious about this ADV thing. Sure, sure, they’ve had the Multistrada lineup for… decades, recently including the capable Enduro 1260 L-Twin, but now, they’ve leveled up with the new V4-powered Multistrada V4 Rally. Prices start at MSRP $31,495 for the base bike.

Featuring the new 1,158 cc 170 horsepower V4 Granturismo engine, the Rally version features engine tweaks designed around off-road riding and heavy lifting, as well as range expansion, with rear cylinder deactivation as needed while cruising or stationary. That should help wring a lot of miles from the stock 7.9 gallon/30 liter fuel cell that wraps tightly around the tops of the cylinders.

And while 170 hp and 89 nits of torque are perhaps overkill in the dirt, fear not, as Ducati includes a dedicated Off-Road/Enduro ride mode that curtails the engine to “only” 115 hp in the rough stuff. Other ride modes include Sport, Touring, and Urban, all with adjustable parameters.

More tech tricks: Seeing how ADV bikes are tall in general, Ducati has integrated an “easy-lift” self-lowering feature in the suspension system to help the inseam-challenged touch down their toes, mount up and get underway. Suspension travel is now 200 mm or 7.8 inches front and rear. Spoked wheels are 17 and 19 inches respectively. Ducati’s radar tech has also made the move to the Rally, and the bike can be had in three different “radar” trims with varying amounts of radar for cruise control autonomy and now blind spot detection with warnings via LEDs in the mirrors. Of course there is ABS, cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, and LEDs in every bulb socket. The color 6.5-inch LCD panel will mirror your phone’s GPS app while riding.

Additionally, the Rally’s ergos are tweaked for more room, especially for passengers – or more gear. Small details include adjustable switchgear including brake pedal adjustment for on and off-road riding. The stock suspension grants eight inches of travel front and rear with full adjustability.

And of course, panniers, lights, crash bars, riding apparel and much more are in the accessory catalog.

Check out Ducati’s V4 Rally intro video, lovingly shot in Kenya. Bike bits begin at the 4:09 mark and are in Italian only, so hit the CC button for a translation if needed. Lots of photos at the end of this post as well.

Prices for the Rally start at MSRP $31,495 for the base bike, and Ducati says they should start showing up in showrooms in May.

What’s your take?
