advrider
The 2022 Red Bull Straight Rhythm competition ran over the weekend and once again, Marvin Musquin is the champion. This year, the races ran in Huntington Beach, California. Musquin rode a two-stroke KTM 250 to the win at Straight Rhythm, with Ken Roczen in second and Justin Barcia in third. Although Roczen has been tied to Honda’s racing program in the US, he couldn’t ride a Honda two-smoker; he piloted a Yamaha YZ250 with cool yellow retro graphics for the event instead. At this point, you might be wondering what this event actually is. Probably the best description for Red Bull Straight Rhythm is to call it a drag race on a motocross track. The races consist of rider-vs-rider showdowns, with the eventual champion eliminating all competition in their way to the top. This year’s track, with full-sized supercross jumps and no turns, ran right alongside the Pacific Coast Highway. Musquin really excelled this year, going undefeated in his 250 class. Was that because fan favorite Ronnie Mac didn’t show up? We’ll have to see if #69 makes it back for next year. This year, Straight Rhythm also ran alongside the Moto Beach Classic, a sort of moto festival put on by Roland Sands Design featuring Super Hooligan National Championship racing, vendors, custom bikes, motorcycle art and other stuff you’d expect from that scene, all running next to the surf.
