advrider
Going into the 2022 Africa Eco Race, Pol Tarres only had one rally raid to his credit. Lots of trials riding sure, even hard enduro. But Tarres was not known as a desert racer. Today, he proved he can perform in this role as well, with a third-place finish on Stage 9. Tarres was actually running right with the leader at one point, showing teammate Alessandro Botturi’s earlier performances (two podiums) with the Yamaha T7-based race bike was no fluke. Speaking of Botturi, he had some serious bad luck in Stage 8, with a broken chain leaving him stranded in the desert… and then the rescue truck also broke down in the desert, leaving him unable to get to today’s start line in time. That meant more time lost for the Italian rider, and he’s currently in 24th overall, after winning the last two Eco Races. Do you think he still wishes he was on a 450? Xavier Flick finished first on the day, once again proving he’s the real deal, and Stefan Svitko was second on Stage 9. Svitko is building up a nice lead in first, as his closest competition, Maurizio Gresini, managed to get good and lost in the sand dunes today.
