advrider
BMW’s R1250 R naked bike is getting a big upgrade for 2023. Note that we didn’t say a big bore—on the surface, the bike looks a lot the same, powered by an liquid-cooled 1254cc flat twin. But underneath that engine’s exterior, there is an important change; the engine now has variable valve timing, thanks to BMW’s ShiftCam technology, which changes intake valve timing and lift through rpm changes. The 1250 GS models have run this engine for a while. This technology allows BMW to get lots of low-rpm grunt from the engine while still retaining its fast-spinning horsepower. BMW says the updated engine is good for 136 hp at 7,750 rpm and 105 lb-ft of torque at 6,250 rpm. Those numbers lag behind the hottest Euro naked bikes (even BMW’s own S1000 R), but they are certainly a long way ahead of the oilheads and airheads of years gone by. Photo: BMW BMW also standardized its ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control systems for the R1250 R, and added gas-saving Eco riding mode (with fuel economy figures on the TFT readout) to its Road and Rain selections. Although this is a practical bike that many owners will want to take two-up, BMW now includes a pillion seat cover as standard. LED signals are standard now as well. As far as options go, BMW has made wire wheels available for this bike, which is certainly something we didn’t see coming. There’s also an adaptive headlight available for extra money (an LED lamp comes standard), along with cruise control, heated grips, keyless start and flashy trim options. There’s a new USB-A charging port as standard as well. Of course, there are new paint options for next year. There’s a Paralever front end, like before, and the rear shock has adjustable preload and rebound, with damping dependent on travel. A steering stabilizer is also standard for 2023. All this, and BMW keeps the MSRP the same for US customers in 2023, at $14,995. [embedded content] Find more details on the new machine at BMW’s American website here. Canadians see a $17,725 MSRP for 2023 (plus taxes and fees), with more details here. Vezi sursa
