Yamaha Tenere 700 Updated For US, Canadian Buyers

Yamaha has finally confirmed the updated-for-2023 changes to the Tenere 700 adventure bike are going to be available for North Americans. On the 2024 T7, US and Canadian buyers can now get basically the same updates that Euro buyers got on the 2023 model.

These include several useful changes, starting with a new off-road ABS mode and a new TFT screen. As we told you about the Euro model:

The two most notable changes to the Tenere 700 and Tenere 700 Rally are probably the new five-inch TFT screen and the new off-road ABS mode. The TFT comes in a vertical orientation, similar to what we saw on the updated-for-’23 Suzuki V-Strom 1000, and now comes with a Street mode (with the usual tachometer and speedometer read-outs) and a new Explorer mode (with an emphasis on tach reading, and other info that’s useful when off-roading).

The new TFT is supposed to be easier to read, and also ties into Yamaha’s new Communication Control Unit (CCE). Using the Yamaha Y-Connect app, motorcyclists can now connect their smartphone to their bike via the CCE. This will allow them to see text messages on the TFT, or accept or reject incoming calls, when paired with their phone. The app also keeps track of basic ride telematics, such as distance or speed, and lets you know when it’s time for maintenance.

Many ADVers will be much more interested in the reconfigured ABS. Previously, Yamaha only offered the T7 with On or Off options for ABS. Now, there’s an off-road mode, officially known as Mode 2, which leaves the rear wheel spinning freely while the front wheel still gets antilock braking. Many riders are happy to have the ability to “steer with the rear” while still keeping ABS up front, and much of the competition now offers similar systems. Yamaha’s updates will be welcomed by most serious off-roaders.

There’s a new set of LED turn signals for the updated North American bike, and Yamaha also pre-wires the Tenere 700 for a quickshifter from the factory. Hopefully that makes the optional upgrade cheaper for buyers in coming years.

Expect the new bikes to come in September-October, with the new Team Yamaha Blue option arriving first, Shadow Gray arriving second. American buyers will pay a $10,799 MSRP, plus taxes and fees. Canadians will pay $13,599 MSRP, plus whatever other charges are tacked on by dealers and government.
