advrider
Got some spare time on your hands, and you’re looking for a project bike? The latest Lego creation is a bit of a different take on that formula. If you really want to build your own bike, Lego is now offering a scale model of the Yamaha MT-10 SP. The toymakers didn’t just bang out a crude lookalike of the Japanese hyper-naked machine. The designers even included a working gearbox, drivechain, fork and shock. Inside that gearbox there’s a shift drum, shift fork, gearshift ring and a ratchet drum, which lets it function as a shiftable three-speed! Obviously, it isn’t a traditional Lego set—it’s part of the Technic line, which has been around a long time itself, and emphasizes mechanical interaction and creativity. Photo: Lego In this case, you’re getting a 1478-piece set, which should keep you busy for a weekend or two. When you’re done, your model will be 9.5 in. (25 cm) high, 17.5 in. (44 cm) long and 5.5 in. (15 cm) wide. It comes with a display stand, so you can show it off to fellow Lego nerds… errrr, I mean motorcycle enthusiasts. The set launches on August 1, 2023 (that’s today!) and will set US buyers back $239.99. Uh, I’ve spent less than that on complete motorcycles. But, I suppose the old Honda VT750 I picked up for a couple hundred bucks actually needed a lot more work than this Lego set needs for completion! If you’re curious, you can see more details at Lego’s website here. If you want one, buy soon, as there’s no guarantee it will be in the lineup for long. I am still kicking myself for not buying the Lego R1200 GS model they sold a decade ago—they’re much harder to find now, and a lot more expensive!
