advrider Posted August 7, 2023 Share Posted August 7, 2023 Kawasaki Motors Corp., USA, is recalling certain 2023 ZX400 and ZX4-RR motorcycles because the connection between the alternator rotor and the crankshaft may loosen, causing the engine to stall. Kawasaki’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report to NHTSA Kawasaki’s Part 573 Safety Recall Report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says 991 motorcycles may be affected. In the report, Kawasaki says: “On certain eligible units, the alternator may malfunction because the connection between the alternator rotor and the crankshaft loosens. This connection loosens due to improper installation of the alternator rotor during the manufacturing process.” Describing the safety risk, Kawasaki says: “There is a risk that the engine may stall due to a loose alternator rotor.” The motorcycles affected by this recall are as follows: MAKE MODEL MODEL YEAR KAWASAKI ZX400S 2023 KAWASAKI ZX-4RR KRT Edition/991 00S 2023 Determining if your bike is affected Potentially affected bikes were produced between January 11, 2023, and March 29, 2023. The affected machines fall within the following VIN range: Begin: ML5ZXCS11PDA00082 and End: ML5ZXCS10PDA01482 – VINs not sequential. Notification schedule Interestingly, in its Part 573 Safety Recall Report to NHTSA, Kawasaki failed to provide any information on how it would remedy this defect. Nor did they provide any schedule indicating when dealers or customers will be notified. Kawasaki will likely update their report with these required details in the near future.
