Next Month: Return Of The Cro-Mag Campout

ADVrider might be a forum, but it’s made of real people, and those real people like meeting up in-person instead of just making KLR-milk-crate jokes on the Internet. We’ve had ADVrider rallies (run by inmates, for inmates) almost since the start of the site, and now one of those will return for 2023, after its future was iffy. The Cro-Mag Campout is coming back to Vermont, and this year, it will help support the family of one of ADVrider’s longtime good-guy volunteer organizers.

The Cro-Mag was run by inmate @ShrineClown (Clark Smith in the real world) for years, but he was forced to step back in 2022 due to illness. Last year’s event became the Clark-Mag and inmates raised funds for @ShrineClown’s family and medical bills. Sadly, Clark died only a few days after the end of the 2022 rally.

This year, the Cromag Campout is back, with inmate @guymanbro helping to organize it. It runs September 20-24 at Silver Lake State Park in Barnard, Vermont. You can see the whole thread detailing who’s going here, but the basic details are below. Note that this year, the registration proceeds go to @ShrineClown’s family, so this is a great way to help out and give back as a thank-you for all the good years of Cromag!

15 Years ago was the first year that the Cromag Campout was held in VT at the Silver Lake State Park. It marked the beginning of a long tenure for Clark, aka Shrineclown, as our fearless fire-ring leader. Last year was the first year he wasn’t at the helm or at the fire and big thanks to EvilClown and his minions for carrying the torch last year.

15 Years ago was the first time I attended an ADVrider rally and I was welcomed with open arms, open beers, a huge ass fire, and camaraderie and friendship second to none. The 2 clowns mentioned above were the loudest adopters of the new GUY, and MAN let me tell you I instantly felt like I was their BRO.

Fast forward to now, Shrineclown has been permanently enshrined, and I have decided to take up the Cromag helm for the time-being. Apologies for not getting this post up sooner but I needed to get some things sorted regarding payments.

To honor Clark’s legacy, all proceeds for the registration will go directly to his family to help out in what is a continued struggle to adjust to life without him. The easiest way to do that is to have all of you FFs make donations directly to the GoFundMe for “Clark Smith’s Challenge of a Lifetime.” If you prefer to bring cash at the campground (or funds at the fire, if you will), that’s fine too.
