advrider
Motorcycles will compete in this year’s California 300. In a press release, the event’s organizer, Unlimited Off-Road Racing, offered more details about the addition of a motorcycle category for the upcoming event. The motorcycle competition will see bikes competing on a three-lap 60+ mile specially designed race course. Unlimited Off-Road Racing says the circuit will be challenging for even the most seasoned desert motorcycle racers. Ensuring that the course will offer some thrills is the fact that multi-time motorcycle champion Johnny Campbell has designed it. Image: California 300 Campbell chimed in on the California 300 and his efforts to make the new course challenging: Barstow has always been a mecca for bike riding and testing. I am stoked to be helping bike racing return in a major way to Barstow. I have spent a lot of time out here riding and know the area intimately. There is a lot of fantastic terrain out here for bikes and the team at Unlimited Off-Road Racing has given me the freedom to put together an amazing bike course. I am looking forward to showing bike racers what’s here in Barstow. Barstow has a long history of motorcycle racing. The famed “Barstow to Vegas” can trace its roots all the way back to 1964. Early events showcased the daredevil spirit of riders like the Phantom Duck, Louis McKey. Other racers like Larry Roeseler, Malcolm Smith, Jack Johnson, J.N. Robers, and Max Switzer rode only increased the excitement and appeal of the race. Unlimited Off-Road Racing says the green flag will drop at the Official California 300 Barstow Main Street Start/Finish line on Friday, October 6th, just after sunrise, with the race concluding grand prix style when the first pro motorcycle crosses the finish line.
