advrider
The Japan Mobility Show will kick off at the Tokyo Big Sight venue on October 28th and run through November 5, 2023. And it seems that the triple tuning fork company intends to show off several new and re-issued concept vehicles. Six vehicles will be “world premieres,” with four being two and three-wheelers. MOTOROiD2 One of the world premiere vehicles is a redesign of Yamaha’s MOTOROiD electric motorcycle, which previously won a “Gold” honor at the International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) competition. This time around, the MOTOROiD2 pushes the boundaries between the relationship of man and machine. According to Yamaha: “As a further evolution of the original MOTOROiD, MOTOROiD2 is also a vehicle for personal mobility that can recognize its owner, get up off its kickstand, and move alongside its rider, but also has a distinctly lifelike feel when somebody is riding on its back and has a presence more like a lifetime companion. The Active Mass Center Control System (AMCES) for attitude sensing and self-balancing as well as the image recognition AI system for recognizing and reacting to the owner’s face and gestures have both been further refined. Additionally, MOTOROiD2 features a new Leaf structure unlike any motorcycle before, giving the model a chassis specialized for lifelike and complementary reactions to the rider.” TY-E 2.2 Somewhat more conventional in design, the TY-E 2.2 electrically powered trial bike will make an appearance. Yamaha says the latest model is lighter and stronger than the original, with optimized stiffness and heat management, and is equipped with some new components, such as a new motor controller unit (MCU). ELOVE Using the technology gained during the R&D process for its MOTOBOT autonomous motorcycle-riding robot, Yamaha will show off an electric scooter it calls ELOVE. The small scooter uses an “Advanced Motorcycle Stabilization Assist System (AMSAS), which Yamaha says “…frees users from the worry and fatigue that accompanies riding at very slow, walking speeds in particular and helps make motorcycling safer and more enjoyable.” Image: Yamaha Image: Yamaha Image: Yamaha Image: Yamaha TRICERA The TRICERA is a three-wheeled open-top “autocycle” that Yamaha says “…pursues the unfiltered joy derived from operating a highly responsive vehicle.” With its “human-centric packaging,” drivers/riders can change the center point of the TRICERA’s turning circle using rear-wheel steering. Operators can select a manual rear-wheel steering mode, which Yamaha says “…allows for the sense of accomplishment that comes when acquiring and developing new driving skills.” If you want to see all of Yamaha’s upcoming exhibits for the Japan Mobility Show, you can check out Yamaha’s dedicated Japan Mobility Show website.
