advrider
We like the Husqvarna Norden 901. It saved Zac’s butt earlier this year when his ride to James Bay, Quebec, went a bit sideways (and not in a good way). The upcoming 2024 model has received a number of minor updates. Some are for compliance, some for convenience, and some help make this bike even more of a monster on the trails. At first glance, none of these seem to affect how great a workhorse the Norden 901 is, and one may make it even more fun. A revised exhaust takes care of meeting Euro 5+ emission regulations, which take effect in 2024. It isn’t clear exactly how this exhaust differs from the current one, but seeing how Euro 5+ has more strict standards for catalytic converter durability testing and on-board diagnostics monitoring, it’s safe to assume that the changes are related to this. Thankfully, this does not appear to have affected horsepower. The 889 cc parallel-twin engine itself is unchanged, and Husqvarna claims the same 105 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque as the previous model. One feature Husqvarna is particularly proud of is its lean-angle sensitive Cornering Motorcycle Traction Control, which now offers ten different levels of rear wheel slip when the optional Explorer Mode is engaged. This lets you hang the back wheel out as much or as little as you want, depending on your skill level and how much of a hooligan you want to be. My right hand can’t even dial in my slip angle with this much precision. These are the main updates for 2024, but not the only ones. The Norden 901 gets new gray and yellow graphics, which is very much in line with Husqvarna’s modern designs but is new and unique for this model. A USB port gives you somewhere to plug in your phone or other accessories. Finally, the Norden 901 gets four-way flashers, useful for safety both on and off the trail in tricky situations. Though relatively minor, these updates bring some needed functionality to the Husqvarna Norden 901. Its reprogrammed Cornering Motorcycle Traction Control brings a bit more fun as well.
