One of the most underrated farkles for any motorcycle is—a good toolkit. Your local dealership almost certainly won’t tell you this, and the guy who sold you the bike via Craigslist/FB Marketplace/Kijiji/Gumtree/Whatever won’t tell you this either. However, if you ride for long enough on the street and especially when you’re in the dirt, something is going to break, sooner or later. That’s when you need a toolkit.

Bikes come from the factory with a toolkit. Sometimes this contains everything you need. Sometimes, it’s cheap junk or lacks essential items. Often, when you buy a used bike, it’s missing. Some inmates replace or augment their factory kit with DIY-assembled components. Others buy kits from aftermarket companies, some of which are pretty good. But what if you could buy a kit that was assembled by an actual off-road racer? Lyndon Poskitt, the guy behind the Races to Places YouTube series and a very well-known name from the ADVrider forum, has now introduced his own kit. It’s for sale on his website. Here’s his description:

Here is a basic list of what’s included:

The tool pouch itself, either Lyndon Organiser or Tool Roll Pack
Motion Pro ADV Chain tool – The best and lightest Lyndon has found (we suggest adding a split link for your chain).
Aluminium Motion Pro Axle wrenches 27mm and 32mm which also doubles up to give you 2 small lightweight tyre levers.
Motion Pro T Handle 1/4 Drive which is the basis for 70% of the tools in the kit, providing fast action or leverage as required.
Various 1/4 drive sockets and a bit driver
A large selection of tool bits covering Allen, Torx, Cross heads and flat heads.
Plug Spanner – size selectable (needs fixing)
Telescopic Magnet tool (for when you drop that one bolt in hard to reach places or valve shim inside your engine)
Spring Puller (can be used to remove tangled wire from your wheels also)
Junior hacksaw blade
Various Field repair products (wire, radiator sealant, metal repair putty, tape and we recommend adding common fuses for your bike)
We don’t include a fork seal cleaner because we strongly recommend using LPR fork sleeves on all bikes to prevent dirt ingress into fork seals (see link: Fork Sleeves).

That sounds like a functional toolkit built on hard lessons of the past. If you’re interested, check out Poskitt’s website here. Note that it isn’t cheap; asking price is £330.83 – £499.00, or roughly $400-$600 USD, depending which options you choose. However, good tools are expensive, and if you’re going to be riding the kind of stuff that Lyndon rides, you will want a good kit to help you get home—or maybe even save you from a disaster in the desert. And remember, a lot of ADVers have enjoyed Lyndon’s video series for free for years. Perhaps you could view this as a way of paying back?
