More Crossover Craziness: Behold The Bimota Tera

Bimota said it was planning an adventure-style motorcycle during its 2022 EICMA appearance, and it seems the company is preparing to make good on that promise. The Bimota Tera once again appeared at the motorcycle show in Milan this week, and while it isn’t exactly a true ADV, it’s a bold new direction for the Italian exotic motorcycle manufacturer. It is most certainly the first time we’ve ever seen a Tesi front end on anything other than a performance street bike.

With 17-inch wheels front and rear, we would lump this into the crossover/adventure sports category, same as the BMW S1000 XR or the just-unveiled Suzuki GSX-S100 GX. However, some of Bimota’s teaser images do show this machine outfitted with some more rugged accessories, so who knows exactly what they have in mind.

What we do know is that this machine is like the rest of the Bimota introductions—since partnering with Kawasaki, Bimota’s bikes have been built around Kawi engines and tech. In this case, it uses a supercharged H2 engine. Expect around 200 hp at the crank, and about 100 lb-ft of torque. Plenty of jam for escaping corrupt border guards and traffic cops and AK-wielding cartels then, right?

That weirdo front end design relies on a super-adjustable Ohlins TTX36 shock, and so does the bike’s rear end. The company says you can opt for Marzocchi semi-active suspension if you want to pay even more. The frame itself is made of machined billet aluminum plates,  Brakes come from Brembo, with four-piston Stylema calipers in front, and Bimota also lifted Kawasaki’s ABS system and installed it on the Tera. Same for the other electronics—lean-sensitive traction control and the like.

We can almost guarantee you’ll never see one of these bikes on the street in North America, and you’ll probably never see one at a dealership. Bimota has its hands full selling machines in Europe.
