advrider
We knew that Triumph had something up their sleeve, a SuperMotocross World Championship effort in the 250 class. Today, they showed us the new Triumph TF 250-X motocross racer for the first time. The phrase that Triumph keeps repeating is “all in,” about the bike itself as well as its renewed efforts to compete in motocross. None other than Ricky Carmichael and Iván Cervantes have been heavily involved in the design, people who certainly know their stuff when it comes to dirt racing. Combined with a new 250 cc four-stroke engine with a forged aluminum piston, titanium valves, diamond-like carbon low-friction coatings, lightweight magnesium covers, and an Exedy Belleville clutch, Triumph is striving to achieve the best power-to-weight ratio in the 250 class. The bike’s actual power and weight numbers are not yet available. Photo: Triumph The TF 250-X isn’t all-go, no-whoa, either. It features a full KYB suspension, with 48mm AOS coil forks, forged and machined 7075-T6 aluminum triple clamps, and a three-way piggyback coil rear shock. Brembo brakes feature twin 24mm piston floating front calipers, a single 26mm piston floating rear caliper, and Galfer 260mm front and 220mm rear discs. DirtStar 7000 Series aluminum rims and machined aluminum hubs are wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion MX32 tires, 80/100-21 in front and 100/90-19 in back. Pro-Taper ACF carbon core bars and ODI half-waffle lock-on grips help you stay in control. Photo: Triumph The basic setup is impressive, but many optional extras are also available. These include an Akrapovič full titanium exhaust, a performance gripper seat and seat cover, and electronics including a XTrig hole shot device and an Athena LC-GPA launch control module with rider-selectable enhanced traction control and launch control settings and LED engine speed indicator. An MX Tune Pro Wi-Fi module lets you tune the engine management computer at the track to optimize performance for whatever conditions you experience. Something else you can do at the track is order replacement parts 24/7 through Triumph’s website. If you run into trouble, simply pick up your phone, find what you need, and order it either for express or standard delivery or to pick it up at the nearest Triumph dealer. [embedded content] Starting in Spring 2024, select Triumph dealers, specially trained in the wants and needs of off-road riders, will begin carrying the full line of motorcycles, parts, accessories, and apparel. Yes, we did say “full line,” because a TF 450-X is slated to follow, as well as a range of dual-sport motorcycles, no doubt including technology derived from Triumph’s racing program. The TF 250-X is available to order from Triumph motocross dealers now starting from $9,995 USD / $11,495 CAD, with delivery expected in Spring 2024.
