advrider
What, exactly, is the Honda Dax? We told you the basics in previous stories—our write-up last week points out that it’s a minibike based on the same engine as the Grom or the Trail 125, with aesthetics from the CT-series bikes from the 1960s and 1970s. But is it a proper trail-worthy motorcycle, or a fun toy aimed at parking lot wheelies? Maybe the answer is “Both.” With those small 12-inch wheels, you won’t be log-hopping, but hey, you can just pick up the bike and lift it over most obstacles. If you live in the urban jungle (and let’s face it, that’s where most buyers will be based), then you’re not really in need of a true dirt bike anyway; you just need something that’s aimed at bashing around a construction site or other rare unpaved surfaces. Think of it as a Grom, but aimed at riders who love re-watching On Any Sunday, or shopping at vintage thrift stores. “In the ’70s, the Trail 70 was ubiquitous in the U.S., where its unique look—highlighted by a ‘T-bone’ frame, chunky tires and folding handlebar—made it easily recognizable strapped to motorhome bumpers and tooling around campgrounds,” said Colin Miller, Honda’s marketing bigwig in the US. “The model holds a warm spot in the hearts of many American customers, so it’s appropriate that it make a return in the form of the Dax 125, which honors the original while introducing modern technology, performance and reliability. We’re excited to see its reception among U.S. customers.” Yeah, we’re curious to see how it sells as well, especially with a $4,199 MSRP. Check out specs at Honda’s website, and see more photos below. Vezi sursa
