While news of KTM’s financial woes, layoffs and camshaft failures have dominated the headlines in recent months, that hasn’t stopped the Austrian brand from releasing new machines and updating existing ones. Accordingly, KTM is bringing back their popular 790 Adventure and 890 Adventure R models for 2025 with a few updates including new liveries, a suspension upgrade for the smaller model, new standard equipment and a better factory warranty coverage for the bigger R machine.

Following a slew of updates for 2024 that included reworked throttle bodies, a knock sensor and a revised Power Assist Slipper Clutch among other changes, we see the most notable revision for 2025 includes an updated suspension. It’s still the same componentry level with a 43 mm split-function WP APEX open cartridge fork and WP Apex rear monoshock featuring 7.9 inches of travel at both ends. However, the previously non-adjustable fork now comes with clickers on top to allow riders to adjust both compression and rebound damping.

The new rear shock absorber is also now adjustable for rebound damping and preload. Previously it only had preload adjustability. Unfortunately, no compression damping adjustability  has been added.

With these new changes, the 2025 KTM 790 Adventure rides on the same suspension previously available on the 890 Adventure it replaced in the lineup from 2023. The additional adjustability promises to make the bike more adaptable to different terrain and situations like riding two-up.

In addition to the suspension upgrades, the 790 Adventure gets two new color schemes and graphic treatments. Pricing is still yet to be announced but the new bikes will start shipping to dealers March of 2025.

KTM’s off-road ready middleweight ADV has long been a top choice for those who enjoy adventures of the more rugged type. It’s still the same great package with WP XPLOR 48 mm fork and a WP XPLOR PDS rear shock featuring 9.4 inches of travel getting the job done in the dirt. The suspension was just updated in 2023 to offer better compliance, so nothing has changed there.

It also has the same advanced electronics package with a full range of adjustable ride modes and a TFT with Bluetooth connectivity for Turn-by-Turn navigations, music and taking calls. But KTM is now including the Connectivity Unit that enables the Bluetooth App connectivity as standard equipment rather than a factory accessory. And like the 790, the 890 R gets a new graphics treatment while bodywork remains unchanged.

With the uproar over the Austrian brand’s handling of their camshaft failures in the LC8c parallel twin powerplant, KTM seems to be trying to build back confidence in their reliability by now offering an improved factory warranty, which has doubled for 2025, going from 12 months to 24 months of coverage. KTM has also confirmed they are now going to offer the 2-year warranty on all of their R models, just like their other street bikes currently have.
