Like we told you earlier this week, moto industry insider Neil Graham, a regular ADVrider opinion column contributor, is here to share conversations with other gearheads. Neil spent years at motorcycle magazines in a career that started with freelancing and led to a job at the helm of Cycle Canada before he started his own site, The Blue Groove, then moved to contributing here at ADVrider. He currently hosts The El Camino Motorcycle Show on television and YouTube… and that’s just his moto life. He has a career as an independent filmmaker outside the world of motorcycles, and he has a Gemini Award on his shelf to show he knows his stuff.

This week, Neil’s talking to Michael Uhlarik (who has also contributed pieces to ADVrider in the past). Uhlarik has a career as a motorcycle designer and industry consultant that goes back decades, including stints with Yamaha Motor Europe, Piaggio Group, Can-Am and other highly influential companies you’ve never even heard of, like Engines Engineering—check out this very cool street tracker that he helped design as a concept for Harley-Davidson.

More recently, he’s been working in the world of EVs, including the development of a monocoque-construction middleweight battery bike that he took to Pikes Peak a few years back, when motorcycles were still allowed to challenge the Race to the Clouds.

These days, Michael’s also doing consultant work for the industry. That means he spends a lot of time paying attention to the finer details of sales figures and other minutia and headlines. This week, he’s got plenty of thoughts on the failure of Cake motorcycles, formerly the darling of the electric motorcycle fanbase. Listen below!
