advrider Adaugat pe 25 Iunie, 2020 Share Adaugat pe 25 Iunie, 2020 World Superbike is back! Or at least, it will be, at the end of July, with several European race weekends confirmed. The 2020 World Superbike season kicked off back in March, in Australia … and it’s been stalled ever since. After the initial race weekend, the coronavirus pandemic saw countries start issuing restrictions on air travellers. The COVID-19 lockdowns made it impossible to continue any sort of international racing season, and most of the world’s national race series stalled as well. At one point, MotoGP’s organizers thought a racing season was unlikely, unless someone developed a coronavirus vaccine in the near future. This would have also probably meant the end of World Superbike, as both series are managed and owned by Spanish sports management firm Dorna. Now, roadracing is back, vaccine or no vaccine. After MotoGP’s announcement of an updated 2020 season, World Superbike also announced its own plans. At this point, the 2020 WSB season will kick off at the end of July, with a weekend of races at Spain’s Jerez track. For the next few weeks, the WSB circus will bounce around Europe. There’s a race weekend in Portugal starting August 7, and then racers head to Aragon for the August 28 and September 4 weekends. Then it’s off to Catalunya for the September 18 weekend, and the final confirmed race weekend for the season is Magny-Couers, starting October 2. World Superbike officials are also hopeful to jam a race weekend in Argentina, starting October 9, as well as an event for Misano starting November 6. Those races aren’t confirmed, though—and WSB also hasn’t confirmed its races at Donington Park, Assen and Losail. On top of the coronavirus pandemic, officials will have to worry about weather and general scheduling issues, to fit it all in.
