  1. Terenul de joaca al inginerilor de la Harley Davidson a fost cumparat de Chrysler. Harley Davidson a anuntat inca din 2011 ca va vinde pista de incarcari de la Naples, din Florida, pretul solicitat fiind de 7,5 milioane de dolari. Dupa doi ani, Chrysler a oferit 7 milioane pe terenul de 215 hectare. Terenul include o pista dreapta cu o lungime de 2,1 mile (3,4 km) si un circuit inchis de 1,1 mile (1,8 km) si mai multe terenuri pentru teste speciale. In total sunt peste 10 km de pista asfaltata. Locatia a fost in proprietatea Ford pana in 20o2, cand a fost cumparata de producatorul din Milwaukee. Harley Davidson spune ca va continua sa foloseasca pista pentru teste, cu aprobarea Chrysler. Cei doi producatori mai folosesc in comun o pista de incercari din Arizona. Chrysler se afla din 2011 sub controlul Fiat, italienii cumparand atunci 61% din actiunile producatorului american de autoturisme. Sursa

Posesorii de motociclete BMW și Harley-Davidson au mai multe probleme de fiabilitate cu motocicletele decât posesorilor brandurilor japoneze, arată un studiu realizat de Consumer Reports în America. Cu toate acestea, pasiunea proprietarilor pentru motocicletele BMW și Harley-Davidson rămâne foarte aprinsă. Studiul, care va apărea integral în luna aprilie, arată că unul din trei proprietari de motociclete BMW din America a raportat probleme cu în ultimii patru ani. Harley-Davidson stă ușor mai bine: unu din patru proprietari a reclamat o problemă în ultimii patru ani, potrivit unui fragment din raport, publicat de cnbc.com.   4. Posesorii de Harley-Davidson, fanii și curioșii s-au întâlnit sâmbătă la showroom-ul Harley-Davidson București. S-au schimbat impresii, s-a băut un pahar de bere iar coloana sonoră a fost asigurată de celebrele V-Twin. Sâmbătă a fost singura zi cu soare din ultima săptămână.   8. Harley-Davidson a lansat un nou model la festivalul Daytona Bike Week. Poartă numele Breakout și ne amintește de motocicletele Gasser, folosite pentru cursele drag din anii 50-60. Facem o liniuță? De fapt, noul model semnat de Harley nu este chiar atât de nou. Poate vă amintiți de Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) Breakout care a debutat anul trecut.   10. Harley Davidson va produce in India un bicilindru de 500 cmc destinat pietei asiatice. Conform zvonurilor care circla prin industria indiana de profil, motocicleta va fi prezentata in februarie la Indian Auto Expo si va fi comercializata incepand din 2014. Motorul va ramane un bicilindru cracteristic Harley Davidson (racit cu aer si cu distributie OHV) iar dimensiunile motocicletei vor fi ceva mai mici decat ale unui Sportster. Harley Davidson are deja o fabrica in Indina, unde se asambleaza pentru piata locala mai multe versiuni ale Sportster-ului de 883 cmc. Se pare insa ca cel mai mic HarleyDavidson este prea mare pentru o piata in care motocicletele de 300 cmc reprezinta segmentul premium, motiv pentru care americanii au dezvoltat n model de 500 cmc. Noul model este destinat cu precadere motociclistilor indieni dar nu este exclus ca el sa ajunga si pe alte piete asiatice, in Brazilia sau chiar in Europa.
  11. Erik Buell a reusit sa demonstreze ca poti lua un V2 racit cu aer si sa il transplantezi din cadrul unui cruiser intr-o ciclistica sport. Basca a mai demonstrat ca poti scoate si ceva cai in plus… Ei bine si? V2-ul racit cu aer de la Halery e ca un caine batran… nu poate sa invete trucuri noi si revine intr-un cadru de cruiser, mai mult sau mai putin traditional. Motocicleta construită de Buchholz Custom combină motorul de 95 CP de la Buell cu un cadru de Sportster, cu o furcă de VTR 1000R SP1 şi cu o evacuare custom. Rezultatul ar fi putut fi un flat-tracker… daca nu ar fi avut comenzi avansate. Sursa

  13. Motocicleta de fetita? Poi da, daca fetita este nevasta lui Travis Pastrana… Doar nu te-ai astepta sa conduca un scuter, nu? De la bun inceput trebuie sa spun ca nici nu stiam pana acum ca Travis Pastrana este insurat, daramite ca nevasta-sa e skater inrait. Pentru ea Roland Sands a construit un flat-tracker plecand de la un Sportster 1200 Custom, la fel cum a facut si Harley Davidson in cazul lui XR1200. Da, numai ca fara un departament de “cost control” care sa isi bage coada in munca lui, flat tracker-ul RSD a iesit asa cum trebuie nu doar un cruiser deghizat. Scurt pe doi: Plecand de la un XL1200C din 2006 recuperat de la centrul de dezmembrari, Sands a reusit sa faca o replica moderna a radicalului XR750R din anii ’70. Pentru a ajunge la rezultatul dorit, RSD a inlocuit suspensia cu doua amortizoare cu un cantilever custom, si a dopat motorul pentryu a urca pana la 95 CP. Triumph si Harley pregatesc modele entry level mai economice decat gama actuala http://www.infomoto.ro/triumph-speed-one-confirmat-mai-pe-dupa-leustean-2 Pentru ca in alte zone criza nu e asa de grava si piata moto duduie, doi dintre cei mai vechi producatori de motociclete isi orienteaza atentia catre pietele din India si Brazilia. Salutare, Undeva pe la inceputul acestui sezon intentionez sa achizitionez o motocicleta entry-level de la una din aceste firme - mi-au picat ochii in principal pe HD 883 iron si Triumph Speedmaster. Problema principala este ca daca de un sportster as putea la un moment dat sa fac rost sa il incerc, la triumph nu cred ca am vreo sansa! nu stiu pe nimeni care sa aiba sau sa fi incercat macar asa ceva. Apelez la bunavointa voastra sa imi impartasiti din experienta voastra - cei care ati "calarit" asa ceva Am incercat sa citesc tot ce am putut de pe net, m-am uitat la toate filmuletele de pe youtube - singurele dezavantaje majore pe care le-ma gasit la triumph - sunetul sub harley si transmisia pe lant (personal ma enerveaza intretinerea si drumurile lungi cu sprayul in spinare) :) Va multumesc anticipat si va astept cu pareri!

  19. Tot si-a postat Zoli ultima aventura... m-a determinat sa o povestesc si eu pe a mea... Traseul a fost in felul urmator Romania: Bucuresti -> Comanesti - Satu Mare (1 noapte) Ungaria: Satu Mare -> Budapesta (1 noapte) Austria: Budapesta -> Viena (1 noapte) - peste alpi - Innsbruck (1 noapte) - Dornbirn (7 noapti) Din Austria, in cele 8 zile petrecute in Dornbirn (fiind la granita cu Elvetia si Germania), am facut mai multe trasee pe motor pana in Liechtenstein, Vaduz; St. Moritz, Elvetia; am vizitat lacul Constance, Munchen-ul ( muzeul BMW & Rols Royce) si alte plimbari prin zona. Italia: Dornbirn -> Bolzano -> Udine si am trecut in Croatia unde am stat o noapte in Split Croatia: Split -> Dubrovnik (2 nopti) Coasta Croatiei este o zona foarte interesanta, un drum exceptional pentru motor, rapid si foarte bun. Cred ca un motor sport-touring este cel mai potrivit pentru zona asta. Bosnia & Hertegovina: Dubrovnik -> am traversat toata Bosnia printr-un Canion superb... nu am cum sa descriu, a fost singurul drum pe care am mers care de la 200 m altitudine a urcat pana la 1000m, de unde se vedea absolut totul. Partea mai ciudata in tara asta a fost impresia lasata de cladirile ciuruite de gloante si de vamesii pusi pe spaga. Aveam senzatia ca ma aflu in Romania, acum 20 de ani. Serbia: Belgrad (1 noapte). Aici am prins festivalul berii, unde am mers cu cea mai mare placere... am facut insa o constatare amuzanta... Eu am 1.87 si tatal meu 1.90. Pot sa spun ca eram printre cei mai mici de la acel festival ca si inaltime. Majoritatea erau cu un cap peste noi. :)) Romania din nou: Belgrad -> Bucuresti Atasez cateva imagini... urmeaza sa imi mai editez postarea cu mai multe detalii In poze suntem ceva mai multi... Cuplul se simte grozav, foarte usor de manevrat... Ca o prima senzatie mi s-a parut total diferita de ce cunosc... Este un alt gen de motocicleta si in ciuda dependentei mele de adrenalina, fiecare kilometru cu harley-ul este o placere de nedescris, chiar si in lipsa acelor accelerari, wheeliuri si alte nebunii cu ce m-a obisnuit portocala mea :)...   22. 2008 Travertson V-REX Review For the attention-loving middle child in all of us! By Kevin Duke, Feb. 13, 2008, Photography by Alfonse “Fonzie” Palaima, Video by Alfonse “Fonzie” Palaima If Angelina Jolie strolled down Main Street naked, perhaps with her hair on fire, she might come close to attracting the amount of attention the Travertson V-REX does. Such is the life of the rider of this science-fictionish contraption, an instant celebrity who is continually barraged with questions each and every time the bike comes to a stop. And, even then, many wouldn’t wait until it was parked, as several times cell phone cameras were dangled out open car windows and wide-eyed, smiling gawkers would yell out above the breeze, “Hey, what the hell is that thing?!” Yes, the V-REX is as subtle as a ballpeen hammer to the forehead. And we imagine that’s the way its small but well-heeled market likely prefers it. This cartoon on wheels was brought to life by one of the clever people who created the Y2K jet-turbine bike made famous by the inimitable Jay Leno, a certified bike nut who delights in telling the story of watching the front bumper of a Camry melting from the intense heat of the turbine’s exhaust after it had pulled up too close at a stoplight. Looking like a refugee from a sci-fi movie, the amazing V-REX is just what you need if you’re not getting enough attention. The V-REX first existed only in a 3D rendering authored by noted mechanical futurist Tim Cameron, then called Dream Bike. Cameron’s ultra-adventurous design caught the eye of Christian Travert, one of the crew at MTT which built the jet-copter-motored Y2K mentioned above. Travert became instantly obsessed with Cameron’s design, so much so that he decided to turn the concept into reality. This proved to be easier said than done. Cameron, working in the digital realm, wasn’t constrained by bothersome details like actual engineering principles. So it was up to Travert to envision a three-dimensional structure that remained true to Cameron’s art project while not collapsing from the stresses of an elongated 79.2-inch wheelbase. Consider the Star Raider, one of the longest bikes MO has ever tested, whose wheelbase is almost 9 inches shorter. Travert, a Frenchman transplanted to Florida, came up with a unique cast-aluminum frame structure that doubles as the fuel tank. A framework of steel tubes stretch over the engine to create the steering-head section and use the V-Rod’s Revolution motor as a stressed member. The company claims a 670-lb dry weight. Massive aluminum castings make up the V-REX’s swingarm front suspension that is damped by an adjustable shock mounted vertically behind the front wheel. The front end is perhaps the bike’s defining feature. No typical telescopic fork here. The unique double-forked swingarm of the concept drawing was inspiration for yet another clever piece of engineering. The super-stout swingarm holds the wheel at one end and pivots from a gusseted vertical component, damped by a fully adjustable shock made in collaboration with EMC. “The front suspension is comparable to a modern street motorcycle back swingarm/monoshock arrangement installed at the front of the motorcycle and pivoting on a neck axis,” Travert told Motorcycle.com. “This design eliminates all the flex of a long classic front fork and also is what gives the incomparable stability plus ease to the V-REX at low and high speed, and it also eliminates nose dive under braking.” And what powers such a futuristic contraption? Hydrogen? Dilithium crystals? Nope, just a good ol’ Porsche design in the form of a Harley-Davidson Revolution motor. The liquid-cooled, DOHC V-Rod engine is used as a structural element, and Travert wisely chose to keep the entire Harley powertrain intact, including its fuel-injection system and electronics. A belt drive spins a meaty 280/35-18 Metzeler ME880 tire out back, mounted on a single-sided aluminum swingarm. Tired of cookie-cutter cruisers? The Travertson V-REX might be the Rockstar you need to perk you up. Approaching the V-REX for the first time is like seeing the Batmobile – it looks more like a Hollywood prop than a functional motorcycle. This impression doesn’t end once aboard, as a giant v-shaped aluminum handlebar stretches back across the fuel tank integrated into the main aluminum frame rail. A flush-mount fuel cap that pivots inside its housing to allow a twist-off action is smart enough to be patented. On of our favorite bits on the bike are turnsignal indicators cleverly integrated into the handlebar ends – brilliant! Short folks will love that their butts will be just 26 inches off the pavement when sitting in a seat that feels like former MO editor Sean Alexander cupping your ass (don’t ask us how we know). Meanwhile, switchgear, instruments and controls are familiar to anyone with seat time on a late-model Harley. Thumbing the H-D starter button ignites the 1250cc V-Twin, and the resulting bark out the bespoke chrome exhaust system is much blattier than allowed from any stock Hog. Two aspects become immediately noticeable: First, that front end is waaaaay up there somewhere near the next zip code; second, the funky front end of the V-REX offers a surprisingly light feeling at low or no speed. Once rolling, the V-REX’s straight-line behavior is about what you’d expect from a 9-foot long, fat-tired cruiser: comfortable and resistant to leaning. The front Metzeler 140/70-18 is as fat as the rear tire of a 1990’s FZR600, but steering response isn’t any worse than some choppers I’ve tested. Meanwhile, the Revolution powerplant and transmission operate just as they do in a V-Rod, albeit with slightly fluffier throttle response. Take a look. Is it any wonder the V-REX attracts more attention than a Britney Spears panty shot? The V-REX’s greatest dynamic limitation is its dearth of ground clearance when cornering. “Are you looking at me? Yeah, you probably are!” Suspension compliance from the unique front swingarm is decently damped by a single adjustable shock, while bumps out back are felt more directly though the minimal travel offered by the twin shocks mounted horizontally under the engine. Travert underlined that the shocks also fit Harley’s Softail series and are the only adjustable dampers for that application. The V-REX offers another odd sensation is felt while braking, as the front end rises when the binder is applied aggressively (as opposed to diving) due to the front swingarm’s geometry. Incidentally, that rim-mount front brake rotor and its six-piston caliper are borrowed from a Buell sportbike. I had to chuckle when I read the Robb Report Motorcycling’s impression of the V-REX: “At speed it glides through corners, soaks up unfriendly pavement, makes U-turns with no worries and stops crisply.” Although we’re amazed that such precocious design as the V-REX actually goes, turns and stops like a motorcycle, we’re a little more discriminating with our evaluation. Most of the “gliding through corners” is done by the footpegs or exhaust pipe, as the slammed and lengthy scooter has a dearth of cornering clearance, scraping hard parts even at modest speeds through turns. And if your turns are of the U variety, you’d best be on a multi-lane road with plenty of extra room. The V-REX is awkward during such maneuvers, with a floppy front end and limited steering lock. But, really, no one should be surprised or offended by a lack of agility, as this is a characteristic of most high-end radical customs. This genre of bike works best when profiling up and down Main Street. Except the V-REX stands apart from any typical chopper – it’s a chassis and a shape unlike anything else on the road, and it magically swivels necks at a higher rate than any bike we’ve tested. And an observer doesn’t need to be a motorcycle connoisseur to appreciate and be moved by the V-REX’s far-reaching and alluring unique design, evidenced by the never-ending stream of cell-phone cameras and toothy smiles it inspires. The V-REX also appeals to those who understand the cost of creating a piece of rolling sculpture. One of the locations we used for photos was Ford’s Premier Automotive Group facility in Irvine, California, where we again gathered another crowd. Even the car guys knew they were looking at something special, and they examined it from all angles while pointing and smiling. After admiring it for awhile, one man asked a pointed question. “How much?” “40 grand and change,” I replied “That’s it?!” he responded incredulously. Yes, $43,990 sounds like a lot of coin to me. On the other hand, there’s no shortage of $40,000 choppers out there that, aside from paint, look a lot like other $40,000 choppers. Speaking of paint, the V-REX can be ordered in one of 11 different colors. The V-REX proudly and defiantly thumbs its nose at the status quo, and in doing so, it challenges the two-wheel establishment to think outside the box and explore what is possible. And for those who want something sportier, you’ll want to wait for the VR-2, the next production model from Travertson. Am mai avut cruisers de tot felu si in toate culorile, VMax's...VRod's...Honda Valkyrie...etc etc etc. In 2000 miam construit si un Harley Fat Boy cu stretched tanks, S&S motor vopsita toata in Lexus silver... De data asta cand ma'm gandit ca vreau ceva mai special, tot ma batea gandul "iati un Harley, iati un Harley"...dar vroiam ceva mai mai decat un Harley, ceva care nu vezi peste tot, ceva mai special mai diferit... am gasit un dealer care vindea un Honda Rune din 2005, nou...avand multe Honde inainte, motociclete sport mai mult...am stiut ca Honda nu face junk, si ca o Honda cruiser va fi mai buna de motor si va merge mai mult si mai bine si se va oprii si se va tine mai bine de strada decat orice Harley cruiser... Sa nu mai zic, ca Honda Rune e aproape imposibil sa vezi pe strada, multi care leau cumparat leau pus in beci si au uitat de ele, fiind doar 2000 de bucati facute (1000 in 2004 si 1000 in 2005) multi le colecteaza si nu le conduc.   24. Din aceasta categorie nu trebuie neglijat nici produsul Harley Davidson. In Europa sunt mai rare si mai piperate la pret dar peste ocean totusi se vand cu miile. Este un motor greu cu un cuplu la motor ff mare. Comfortul este superior si sunetul este unic. Cu un astfel de motor ai inghiti mii si mii de mile saptamanal. Ai nevoie de ceva experienta si putere pt asa exemplar. Multi ani in urma am cumpart unul si l-am trimes in Austria unui amic. La facut sa luceasca si il scoate doar la ocazi speciale.
